What is with the algorithm and it ‘knowing’ us! Aaaarrgggghhhhh!

As you may know I have recently moved and I have been scrolling the internet looking for ideas on what to do with my home…

I send my husband so many reels of things, but he NEVER replies as he 1. Hates DIY and 2. doesn't ‘really’ care about paneling or what lamp goes in a room…

How does that make me feel? Well in all honesty, I have lost track of how much I have sent him, (ooops) and it doesn't affect me at all.

Now, what does affect me is the sheer amount of content I get shown now because I have looked at one person's panelling which they did in an hour or how they did their entire garden for £300!

Really?!

The Internet vs Reality

Now, I am a little bit naive to some things, I will fully hold my hand up to that but these posts are just reedic and I don’t buy into it at all!

So, my thoughts this month are on what we see on the internet v’s the reality of what goes on around us.

How many of us get ‘sucked’ in by things and people and do we truly know what they are good at, what experience they’ve got, what their customers say, and are being honest?

Here's my top tip: Do your research!

 Ask the questions

  • How do you feel when you see them?
  • Ask for testimonials to ensure they are genuine
  • Do you like them?

Just because they have ALL the things they ‘should’ have on paper, do you think you could actually spend time with them?

    Do You Trust These People?

This month alone I’ve spoken to so many people about how they are just a bit fed up of seeing all the stuff and not actually buying into any of it…

So here are some honest things you can 100% trust me on:

    • I LOVE dark chocolate
    • I am constantly tired
    • I LOVE the sunshine and fresh air
    • I am a massive quiz fan
    • I LOVE people watching
    • I HATE bananas

You can also 100% trust me on these things:

    • I am a firm believer that things don’t just fall in your lap, you also have to put some effort in.
    • I am great at getting people to get shit done, accountability is me.
    • I am a firm believer that it takes more than just a positive mindset to move things forward. Do the stuff in addition to thinking positive.
    • I am great at supporting you to have MORE time for you to do the things you enjoy. If time is a blocker then we can create more time for you AND still be productive. You can download my Time Blocking guide that will help you transform the way you work now!

Think Of Things Outside Of The Digital Space

.In a digital world, I want you to think of things that are outside of the digital space. Find the people who can help you in other places too.

It takes an average 8 touchpoints for one person to buy from you, so think about that one post you see or do, is that enough?

I’ve personally stopped relying on social media for my business, it’s only ever directly brought me 2 sales, I use it as a ‘shop window’. Can you do the same?

A few months ago now I did a free masterclass on how you can get sales without just relying on social media you can get it here.

Since then I have added a few more below that can help:

    • Tenders: Have a look at this site and for your own industry, lots of companies post about specific jobs they need to fulfill - it’s a national site, not just Wales by the way! Use the keywords that are relevant for your industry to search.

    • Networking: Refer back to previous blogs where I share tips on this, even if you hate the thought of it!

    • Current client base: How many of us have ‘clients’ right in front of us that we don’t speak to or utilise enough? If you have ever worked with a client in the past, in any capacity, have their circumstances changed? Do they need something else from you now?

This last week alone I have coached 3 people who have all said they hate social media and really don’t want it to be part of their business.

I delved into this a bit more of course and we got curious about the ‘why’s’...

Use It To Work With You Not Against You

What we concluded is that it IS a great place to be, and you can use it for the right reasons but use it to work with you not against you.

    By this I mean:

    • What platform is right for your business? If your business is visual then is X (twitter) right for you?
    • Outsource! Yes, invest in someone who loves social media and give it to them to look after for you. But what if I don’t have the money to invest? Can a student help who is looking to build a portfolio? Can you do a skill swap? Is the investment in saving you time and energy worth it’s weight in gold?
    • Use a scheduling tool, so once it’s done it’s done…block in the time to schedule and use that time only to post. Meta business is great as you can cross post across FB and IG….
    • Don’t try and beat the algorithm, enjoy your business and enjoy the content, things will feel lighter.

    You're All Caught Up...

One of my recent guests on my podcast, Nikki Giant and I were talking about how it never ends, the ongoing stories, the ongoing posts, and once upon a time it used to say to you ‘You’re all caught up, there’s nothing else to see’ or something along those lines, so you knew to put your phone down…I wonder why that went?

Can you still take that approach?

Here are my top tips to limit screen time:

    • Time block in certain times of the day to look at social media.
    • Limit the amount you can use it (most phones have this option now).
    • Out your phone on greyscale from a certain time (mine is on from 9pm), it makes the screen less appealing to look at.
    • Outsource if you are able, save yourself the time and energy
    • Take a break. Think about other ways to enhance your business from my free guides.

Feel Like You're Spending All Your Valuable Time on Social Media?

Well, I've created a simple 60 day action plan to move your thoughts offline and help you utilise other ways to grow your business and increase sales - say goodbye to the confusing online jargon that social media has become!

Anyway, I’m off to check my social media 😉 and then hand it over to the lovely Michelle who is far better than me at looking after things!

Let me know how you get on!
